The Autopilot Failure That Shook the World

All 157 passengers were killed when Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed in March 2019, minutes after takeoff. An automated software program known as MCAS was installed on the Boeing 737 Max.

The plane's nose was inadvertently pulled lower by the system because of inaccurate sensor data. The pilots attempted to take control again, but the program was too strong for them.

Remarkably, this wasn't the first time this happened. A similar disaster occurred in Indonesia five months prior under the same circumstances.

A crucial issue was shown by these tragedies: improper testing can cause even the most sophisticated technologies to malfunction. Technology should never take the place of rigorous safety inspections, as demonstrated by the global grounding of Boeing's 737 Max.
